Working today to protect tomorrow is also one of Protection UNIT’s goals. After starting the replacement of our fleet to exclusively use hybrid or electric vehicles, we have acquired our first 30 electric scooters, ideal for certain trips and with a very low environmental impact!
Protection UNIT, the first 100% Belgian security company in our country, has made ESG principles a top priority and, as such, has initiated an extensive review of its carbon footprint. In partnership with the Vanderheyden garage, the company has started the gradual replacement of its fleet (over 200 vehicles) to exclusively use hybrid Toyota self-charging vehicles or electric ones. We have also launched horse patrols at major events and acquired bicycles. But our reflection didn’t stop there…
Indeed, we have also decided to opt for electric scooters for certain missions, which have a minimal environmental impact. Unlike combustion engine cars, they do not emit CO2 during use as they run on a rechargeable electric battery. They are therefore more suitable for mobile patrols across large sites, for example, rather than using a car that is driving at low speeds. Additionally, they are very practical for short-distance travel, especially when the client is present across multiple sites within the same geographical area, as they eliminate the issues related to urban traffic density.
Some of these scooters are replacing the Segways we previously used, which were more dangerous to operate, while others are designed to make the work of our staff easier. “For certain foot patrols that cover large areas but are restricted to vehicles, the distances can slow down the agents’ response time,” explains Abdel Zinoun, Static Guarding Manager at Protection UNIT. “With the electric scooter, if the agent is on patrol and needs to respond to an alarm on the other side of the site, they can get there in a matter of seconds without arriving out of breath, conserving their energy for the intervention!”
The electric scooter also allows for more patrols than when the agent is on foot, and it provides greater visibility during these patrols since the agent wears a specific vest (and is also protected by a helmet). This is why we decided to place them at Brussels-Expo, the King Baudouin Stadium, the Grands Prés shopping center in Mons for surveillance of its surroundings, and finally at some of the European schools we oversee. Depending on the success and demand, additional orders could follow.
Acting today to protect tomorrow, Protection UNIT is committed to it!
